Course Reflection:

This Senior Thesis Capstone Project focused on the concept of analyzing, redesigning, and evaluating the construction process of the Hoffman One Renovation Project. This was a 14-story office building, which was located in Alexandria, VA. Throughout the semester there were various assignments and tasks that were required to complete the overall project. This included three technical analyses and reports. These focused on a further understanding and greater detail regarding the building’s systems, specifications, and even the overall construction processes. These reports as well as a few other assignments created the Fall Semester goals and activities.

The Spring Semester was contingent upon the completion of the Fall Semester work and understanding. The task at hand was a bit greater than the fall, which was the idea of developing four main in-depth analyses to suggest an alternative solution within the building’s core functions. These were focused within the construction process and building systems. Utilizing the techniques and practices we’ve learned throughout our curriculum in Architectural Engineering, the focus was to minimize cost and schedule constraints, improve production efficiency, and abide by the owners needs and requirements. Within these analyses there were also multiple breadth topics, which were related to the principles of mechanical and structural engineering design and practices.

In conclusion, developing these analyses and reports; they were constructed into a final report and final thesis presentation. This task was not easy and required a lot of hard work and devotion to fully understand the building aspects. As a result, this process has taught me how to analyze a building and tailor the needs and constraints within the system. Additionally, it has allowed me to focus on a variety of issues or potential improvements in any given project. Lastly, the effects of this year’s outcome has far exceeded my expectations and produced a well-rounded individual to focus on various aspects within the industry.

CPEP Reflection:

The Capstone E-Portfolio was an excellent way for the students to create something they could be proud of and demonstrate to the industry their ability and level of understanding. Additionally, it was a great way for the instructors to overlook the student’s work and effectively keep up with the information presented. Overall, this was certainly a benefiting process on behalf of the students and the instructors to demonstrate the hard work contributed to the Senior Thesis Capstone Project, which can be viewed for years to come.
